My husband is military and we have spent $9,000 so far on a civilian attorney to fight to keep my husband’s job…it’s still not over, so probably will cost at least another $5,000, and unsure of what the outcome will be.
The details of why aren’t really important, Ted…the question is are legal fees tax deductible if they are spent for the purpose of saving one’s job.

I just looked at our 5500 form that shows we paid $2500 in commissions to the guy who sold us the plan 5 years ago. So we have paid about $10,000 to someone that we saw once!
From what I can figure out, there are also fund expenses and possibly wrap fees, too.
Anybody know what I am talking about? Thank you very much.

I am the plaintiff in a lawsuit and have a judgment against the defendant. However, I am now out of money and can’t afford to hire an attorney to force the collection. Our judicial system is screwed up. Can I get a tax deduction on attorney fees that total $20K? Even though I won my case, no one enforces payment. Not only did I lose $75K through fraud, but also the $20K for attorney fees. My tax man says it is not deductible because it is a collectible judgment, even though I will never collect. Is this right? Any ideas?
Has anyone ever dealt with an Immediate needs annuity or CFPP (Care fees payment plan).?

I know you pay a lump sum and in return get payments for care for the rest of life (lump sum being approx 4 to 5 x the annual payment).
