I started to file my taxes married but separate. I talked him into putting our home in my name only. I want to sell it and pay off some of our equity line of credit. I had know Idea he owed all this money to family friends and the irs. he refuses to quit this business and get a job cause he says that at 53 years old he can’;t get a job and that his business will be fine. he won’t go to counseling, I am sick and cant hold this up much longer. what are my rights what can i do. I don’t want to lose everything.

My husband and I just got married last week and he has back owed child support. I am all for helping him pay off the back owed money as I was raised by my mom and my father barely paid a cent, however we are very low on funds. I have only filled out our marriage license to change my name, if I change my name on everything else (SS #, bank account, state ID) can DOR come after any money I might have saved? Or place a levy on my bank account (if his name isn’t on it)?
I am a stay at home mom and my mom sends me money every so often, and I also sell stuff online so the very little extra money we have is spent on our family needs. My husband pays weekly support towards current and back owed support and hasn’t missed a payment since he started his new job almost two years ago.
My other question if when we file our 2008 taxes (I worked for a little while before going on bed rest at the beginning of the year) should I file married filing single or file jointly? I know if we file jointly they will seize all of our refund, but can they still seize my refund if I file single? I rely on my refund to purchase clothing to fit our kids for the year as well as playing catch up on some older bills.
Variable annuity went down. We lost SOME MONEY, will it go back up or should I take my money out?

There’s a organization which is non-profitable. Sadly, I live in this damn organization. However, i went to the site’s webpage and looked under what donations are acceptable. It reads:
Gifts of cash, stocks, bonds, and deferred gifts such as life income (Annuity, Unitrust), life insurance policies, charitable lead trusts, and bequests will be accepted.
Now, I looked up why is life insurance so important and it covers a person’s life and in case of accidently deaths and such. So, when the person dies the family doesn’t have to go bankrupt and sell their home.
I also looked up Life Income and it sounded to me that you give the doner money and they give you money back. Also, what sounds alittle screwy is the bonds and stocks. No wonder why the stock markey crashed. LOL! just kidding.
Is this organization scamming people or what is your opinions on it?

I cancelled a variable life annutity contract after 4 years of contributing with my post tax dollars. Surrender charges were outrageous, can I deduct them as a capital loss?

i was in jail yet when i got out i was told that being in jail is no reason not to pay child support. even when i was homeless i was told to sell my cloths and give it to child support! yet my ex as not even given me a photo of my kids in 9 years! she is a r.n and makes lots of $ i made 6000.00 last year and the payments are 100.00 a week. she will not even give me a address or see them in all this time! or any info on them she hangs up most of the time on me or makes the kids do it.she has a cell phone so i can’t know the area code were she lives! i looked her up in people finder she as lived in 5 diffrent states since our divorce… the courts just say get a lawyer yet i can’t even find a job anymore! and will soon be homeless again..since i was a truck driver!for the past 14 years. much less going back to jail for missing so many payments. i have already gone to jail 3 times for missing payments because of them taking my lic! i have tryed everything to get a job but the background
is it better to take a lump sum for retirement or annuity payments for life if you are 61 years old?

Ok, so my friend seems to think that because his dad owes back child support, they are going to take his truck and give it to him. I for one know this isn’t true, they can put a lien on the truck so he cant sell it, or they can take it and SELL it if he has a few vehicles. But they will not give it to the child because its his fathers personal property. Am i right or am i wrong. he doesn’t even have an order against him yet, but there getting ready to go to court because he hasn’t paid, so its not like he has an order against him already and hes not paying. Tell me who’s right, because ive showed him multiple things to prove it, but hes hard headed. give me some proof if you can. Thanks.
