Variable Annuity: good or bad?

05 Jun

I’ve signed up for a variable annuity mutual fund and the more I research it the more leary I am. My financial advisor says I’m gauranteed a 7% return but I have to let it sit there for 8 years and at the end theres a 1.2% reduction for the advisor. Is this a bad idea? I first jumped into it because of the drastic swings in the market but now I feel I’m getting ripped off. Any advice will be appreciated.

A variable annuity IRA at age 28?? Is this normal?

30 May

A year ago I didn’t know anything about investing and I lost my job so I decided to do a 401K rollover. Not knowing too much and not being told everything my life insurance agent/friend put my money in variable annuity IRA at age 28. It was a front end design and I can take out my money with out a surrender fee. What’s your take on all of this? Should I be angry? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I want to take my money to Vanguard.

Are deferred variable annuities a smart investment for someone in my situation?

27 May

I’m 50 and have $250k of investment funds that I was thinking of putting into a deferred variable annuity. This is money that I don’t expect to need until retirement. Assuming I don’t get ripped off fee-wise, are things generally considered to be a good investment vehicle for someone who maxes our 401-k and IRA and is looking at reitrement in 15 years? If so, are some of the bells and whistles such as death benefit and gteed values generally considered to be worth it?

Thanks.

Question about Variable annuity?

20 May

I have a person that is telling me to get a Variable annuity. I heard that they are not good. However; the guy is tell me I get at lease an 8% return on my money. If the market goes higher, then I get more. Is this good or bad.
